There was a patient on our unit who had been in the hospital for over a week and who hadn’t seen her four kids since before her admission. She was very depressed, not eating much, and kept expressing how much she missed her kids. When Ashley took care of her, she found out that it was her younger son’s birthday. Ashley arranged for someone to bring him up to see his mom. Ashley then went to the cafeteria and bought him a piece of cake and a birthday card for the patient to sign and give to her son. I cannot express how happy this made her (the patient). She actually ate all of her lunch (this was the first time since admission that she ate 100% of a meal) and was so happy! She even called Ashley into the room to read her the card she wrote for him- she was so proud and excited! She lit up when she saw her little boy and was over the moon excited to give him his birthday gifts! This is just one example of how much Ashley cares for her patients and goes above and beyond!
