Ashley Lane, the Bariatric Coordinator for Northside Duluth, is a highly skilled, extremely knowledgeable, and compassionate team player who consistently displays and promotes the highest ethical standards. She advocates for all patients and family members and works with all departments throughout the Northside Duluth team to collaborate and provide the best possible patient care. Ashley is a positive role model, educator, and mentor to all who know her.

The Endoscopy Department had the pleasure of caring for a patient who was being evaluated for post-procedure nausea and vomiting. Her symptoms persisted for two weeks, and to complicate this patient’s life more, the medications that she takes daily for anxiety and depression were not staying in her body because of the vomiting. During admission to Endoscopy, the Preoperative nurse asked the patient a series of questions regarding suicide or suicidal tendencies, which is a required screening for every patient on admission. The patient’s answer to the suicide screening led the Preoperative Nurse to notify the Charge Nurse, who contacted Behavioral Health and notified the Supervisor of Endoscopy. As a collaborative team, we continued to assess the patient while waiting for Behavioral Health to assist the patient. The Supervisor then got Ashley Lane involved, and Ashley came to the patient’s rescue. Ashley, with her soft-spoken and calm demeanor, talked with the patient and found further assessments to determine that the patient's suicidal tendencies could be from a Thiamine deficiency, which can be life-threatening if not treated. Ashley contacted the surgeon to discuss the next steps and swiftly plan for further treatment, including admitting the patient to Northside Duluth Emergency Department. Ashley went out of her way to coordinate with the Emergency Department and quickly get the patient the best treatment.
