Her kind acts will always remain in my heart.
From the first time Audrey was assigned to work, with our daughter "E" she showed true compassion. Audrey stood out. Others may just see our daughter as a medically complex baby, but Audrey saw her the way that I saw her. Perfect!!! She treated E no differently. The first day that Audrey worked with E she came in and said, “We’re going to give E a bath today”. I was very excited to give E her first bath. This was one of my first favorite days in the NICU where it didn’t feel so medical. It just felt like a normal day as a mom who gives her baby a bath and she gets to cuddle her baby. Audrey checked up on us throughout her shift and allowed me to participate in all of E's care for the day.  Although we were supposed to be discharged a week after our first day with Audrey, E developed meningitis from a recent surgery. Those days were scary, stressful, and exhausting, but Audrey helped carry a lot of our weight during these difficult weeks. She always had the right words of guidance. She was always so positive and as humans after things go wrong over and over, we tend to lose hope, but she helped me hold onto my hope which gave me strength to remain positive in a difficult time. On top of that, Audrey always made sure that I was able to snuggle E as much as I possibly wanted to and made sure to include me in as much of E's care as possible. Audrey advocated for E and our family. E remained in the NICU for 93 days. Before discharge, she made the effort to arrange a care team meeting. Which did happen. Audrey was so amazing in caring for E. I remember walking in one day and Audrey was cuddling E at the bedside. My heart melted. My fear was that my sweet E would feel alone when we couldn’t be there, but when Audrey was there E was never alone. After discharge, E ended up in the PICU on several occasions. Each time Audrey always made the effort to come visit E and check up on me. Unfortunately, E lost her battle and gained her wings. Audrey drove a far distance to attend her funeral and support our family during this difficult time. The team at Golisano has been beyond amazing, with our entire family. However, the compassion, love, work ethic, and kindness, that Audrey has had for our family is truly one of a kind. It takes a true nurse to be able to put more than minimal time into her patients. I can go on about the amazing qualities that Audrey has not just as a nurse, but as a person. She is genuinely kind-hearted. She made a scary NICU stay feel a little less scary. Her kind acts will always remain in my heart. I know my E loved all the attention that Nurse Audrey gave her. I don’t think Audrey knows how grateful we are to have had her throughout our hospital journey. We can never thank her enough for everything.
