I want to recognize someone who is, in my opinion, one of BUMCP's best, Austin Bonillas.
On any particular day, Austin conducts himself with the utmost professionalism and is always very helpful to colleagues and patients. Though he exemplifies a great nurse every day he works, there is one day that I think especially demonstrates what a standout nurse he really is.
One of Austin's patients was to be discharged that day, but because his patient was homeless and without resources, he had no clothes that he could wear when he left the hospital. Austin clocked out that morning after his shift but came back a couple of hours later with a backpack loaded with several brand new changes of clothes for the patient to take with him. He didn't have to do that- he could have gone home, tired after a long shift, and assume something would have worked out for the patient.
Austin went above and beyond for his patient and made such an impression on me that I won't soon forget the kindness he showed that day.
