He is kind and patient and always encourages staff to resolve problems on their own before having him step in. He is wise in his guidance of encouraging this practice, and because of this, his team has become unstoppable.
Austin Bourassa is the epitome of what a leader should represent! The team Austin has built is impeccable. They say a team is reflective of their leader and that could not be more truthful. Austin is very diligent in being fair with all his staff in every aspect. He is kind and patient and always encourages staff to resolve problems on their own before having him step in. He is wise in his guidance of encouraging this practice, and because of this, his team has become unstoppable.
There is a waiting list of RNs who would like to become a part of this amazing team, and I don't blame them. Austin is always sending encouraging words and affirmations to show his gratitude for the team that he holds to a high standard, and they do not disappoint in meeting this high standard.
During the big move from the Penthouse to the Presidential Suites, Austin involved all of his staff (as he always does with decisions) to get everyone's opinions to make the new unit the best it could be for staff, patients and their families. He planned and executed the move so smoothly that everyone from the outside who was involved was amazed at how well the transition went. This is because of his amazing talent in getting the whole team involved from start to finish!
Austin started this journey with this team as a CNA and moved on up from there. He built rapport with staff and eventually moved to the manager position during a tough time. He followed in some hard footsteps and just before the great blast of COVID. But even though the times were tough with COVID and repairing the broken spirits that were left behind from previous leadership, Austin managed to persevere and build this team back up! To say ICC is spoiled would be an understatement, ICC is truly blessed to have such a kind, understanding, fair, fun, reliable, trustworthy and funny leader!
Thank you, Austin, for being the leader that EVERY unit wishes they had!
Austin is one of the best managers I have come across in a really long time. I am a brand new nurse to the unit, and he has made me feel welcome and at home. He has created a comfortable and caring environment by being a compassionate nurse who is always available. On a cold, snowy day, he saw me outside helping a discharged patient get snow/ice off his/her car, and he stopped and helped me even though he was off shift. I feel extremely lucky to have such a caring manager on our team.
Note: This is Austin's 2nd DAISY Award!
