She always smiled, made jokes, and made me feel so much better about my upcoming procedure.
I came into Boone Hospital on the day of my ablation for SVT, extremely nervous and scared. While I have had two c-sections previously, I had never been under general anesthesia or had a procedure done on my heart. I also had a pulmonary embolism following my last c-section. So, putting all of that together led to some extreme nerves on my part. From the moment Bailey Jerome introduced herself, I felt comforted. She was calm, patient, and reassuring as she answered all my questions. Due to my nerves, I probably had more questions than usual, but she didn’t seem to mind at all. She performed an exemplary IV stick, finding the vein and then making a successful stick for the first time. I am usually a very hard stick. So, I appreciated her finding it and not putting me through any more pain than what was needed. She always smiled, made jokes, and made me feel so much better about my upcoming procedure. When she took care of me in recovery, she never faltered in providing extraordinary care. She checked on me all the time, and I felt like I was under the best nursing care possible with her as my nurse. She was always upbeat even as the hours of her shift wore on. When I complained of a headache as I woke up from anesthesia, she didn’t miss a beat by offering me some Tylenol, all with a smile. When I mentioned that my chest had some pain/discomfort, she also didn’t miss a beat in reporting this to the doctor so he could prescribe medication if he found it to be needed. She told me stories about her sister and was never hesitant to have a friendly conversation with me. While she showed extreme professionalism, at the same time, it wasn’t just all business. I felt like I was visiting with a friend who was assisting me on one of the scariest, and yet most important, days of my life. I have suffered off and on from SVT since the age of seven (I am now 34). I feel I was so fortunate to get such a caring nurse by my side on the day that I followed through on changing my life. When a patient is scared and nervous about the unknown, a caring nurse can make such a tremendous difference. And Bailey did just that. Thank you.
