I'm a pregnant 25-year-old wife, mother, special education instructor and chronic pancreatitis survivor. Life is tough enough without being sick. Being dealt this card has made normal life very hard. I've had 5 admissions in 8 months. I have fought with my job about my absences, I have lost weight, I never feel good, I haven't done most of my chores in the home, I vomit almost daily, I'm always nervous to eat and what hurts the most is watching my son through FaceTime in the hospital.
I have spent so many days away from him. In all of my hospital stays, this particular nurse has made me feel so beyond blessed. I was admitted to the High-Risk OB unit 2 times in the last 2 weeks. My first admission I had Barbara Clark as a nurse on my 2nd day in. Barbara was so sweet, caring and helpful. She made sure I was comfortable at all times and even went to the extent of getting me a cold washcloth for my head and continued to come check it and re-wet it as necessary.
Barbara didn't have to do all the things that she did. Though she did, not because it's her job, because that's the person this she is. My 3rd day Barbara was my nurse again. She was just the same except now we have learned more about each other. Within those short two days, I would have called her a best friend.
That night I started having trouble breathing due to spasms in my pancreas. Barbara was coming to say goodbye because her shift was over. She saw me in the doorway and immediately called the doctor and another nurse. Barbara got oxygen out for me right away and next thing you know the doctor was there. The whole time this she was assuring me that I'd be ok. Through my tears, I saw her behind the doctor.
Barbara was worried about me like a mother would be. When I was able to breathe normally again Barbara hugged me and said not to scare her like that again. That was such a scary moment for me and I wouldn't have wanted another person there. She ended up staying way past her scheduled time to take care of me. Honestly, this story does not give this amazing DAISY Honoree justice. I wish there was a better way to show you how wonderful of a nurse Barbara is. I owe it to her for being there for me through one of the scariest times of my life.
