In the new age of homemedical, it is now apparent just how large and occasionally overwhelming the workload that Barbara has been juggling all these years. As the inpatient case manager for all our WIHCC patients, she manages as best she can to track, monitor and coordinate patient stays in the hospital or to the next stage of care, whether it was another healthcare facility or a return to home. The amount of networking and coordinating it requires for one patient can take days and that is if contacts are established. She also tries to bring the patient back into the primary care loop and most oftentimes, patients didn't have PCPs. In most facilities, this is shared among a team of at least 4-5 staff members. Barbara's sharp attention to detail, critical thinking, collaboration, dedication to service and patients, and most importantly her compassion to do as much as possible with the limited resources available, all in the best interest of our patients is what makes her a shining example of a WIHCC DAISY Nurse. This was very clear and evident when my family needed help earlier this year with a hospitalization. It's a different perspective when a healthcare employee becomes the patient or family and we felt the same uncertainty and fear our patients do. It was a blessing that Barbara was there and she helped guide us through the many intricacies of the system. She alleviated the worry and stress of trying to do the admin part alone so that we could concentrate on our family and for that, we are forever grateful. It's good to know that Barbara is there to help our patients and families. Thank you, Barbara.
