When we arrived in the ER, my dad was seriously sick and not able to communicate very well with those attending him. We were quickly taken to an ER unit and were given excellent attention to his care. Specifically, Barbara Huff was especially concerned and constantly monitoring his condition, communicating with us and the others who were caring for him. She was not even the nurse charged to my dad's case, she was simply stepping in to assist. Had we not been told that she was just "helping out" we would have never known that she wasn't his actual nurse.
She is the epitome of what WellStar Paulding aspires to deliver in nursing care. I make that statement from a patient's family perspective, which mirrors that desire. Unknowingly, we were not finished with her extreme caring approach to patients and their families. After my father was discharged four days later, he became unresponsive at home the next morning and we returned to the ER on Tuesday morning as EMTs were also unsuccessful in reviving him. Who would we be greeted by? Yes, Barbara Huff was right there waiting to help us in every way she possibly could.
Even though she had many other duties for the day, she was somehow right there with us as we were told of my dad's passing and while we waited for my son and his wife to arrive from North Georgia. She continued to come check with us to see if she could do anything for us, get anything for us, or help in any way. We feel completely blessed that she was with us and believe it was no accident that she was able to help us. Any patient or patient's family would be very fortunate to be attended by Barbara Huff.
