Ben was calming, reassuring, and compassionate with his care throughout the night, even when I woke up confused and nervous.
I (a 25-year-old woman) was admitted to Pavilion B after a tonsillectomy. Going into my surgery, I was nervous with possible reactions to multiple medications, which included general anesthesia. Ben spent the first part of the night taking me for a walk around the unit while talking to me about my job and special interests. After that, I spent most of the night sleeping, but would sometimes wake up seeing Hitler, of all people. I assured Ben that I knew he wasn't there, but Ben reassured me that everything would be okay.

However, around 3 AM, I had a rapid response activated due to sudden inspiratory wheezing. I was so nervous. Ben did not leave my side. He advocated for me, bringing up my autism so that only necessary people entered the room. They determined I needed a breathing treatment. While another nurse got the medication, Ben sat down with me to discuss Chernobyl that I had mentioned prior in the shift. The talk made me distracted from my discomfort, and before I even realized it, I had my breathing treatment and was feeling better. He did not leave my side until I was ready to go back to sleep.

Ben was calming, reassuring, and compassionate with his care throughout the night, even when I woke up confused and nervous. He was a fantastic nurse, and I appreciated his care more than I could ever say.
