Benny was caring for a patient on 4L who wound up having a rapid response. The patient started to rapidly decompensate, and the spouse and MD had a conversation saying that the patient was going to transition to comfort care since he might not make it through the night. The spouse said he wanted to come in to see his husband but could not afford an Uber or Lyft. The hospital is unable to provide a ride for family members per the hospital supervisor, so without hesitation, Benny ordered the spouse a Lyft out of their own pocket. The family member was able to see their loved one before they passed because of this. Their selfless act allowed this patient to have their family at the bedside during this extremely difficult time and allowed the family time to say goodbye. Because of this, I believe Benny deserves a DAISY Award for his compassion, caring nature, and ability to do what's right by the patient.
