I am writing this nomination to recognize Berly Begin for all the support and help she has given to her team. From the time I started with her leadership, she has been a very proactive leader. She motivated her nurses towards their professional growth and development. She is very creative in bringing new ideas to improve our patient care, patient safety, and patient satisfaction. She always believes in structure. She doesn’t just dump on her nurses but tries to explain the “why” and the importance. I like Berly’s open-door policy, we can go to her to vent, and she finds a solution. She is very compassionate.

One day the ER was short-staffed, nurses needed help, and a patient arrived with bugs and maggots on their body. Berly removed her white coat, put on an isolation gown and cap, and helped bathe the patient with the nurse. This is the kind of leadership she has. She always jumps in any RRT or emergency situation to help her team. Berly also comes to work on night shifts to cover a charge role when the ER has been short-staffed. Being a mother of 2 little children, to always be ready for duty, even the night shift is very impressive. During her maternity leave, she would call and check on us on a regular basis.

She is a strong leader. Always giving priority to our patient safety. She speaks to her team in a professional manner, always open to suggestions. She takes every patient complaint very seriously. She is a fighter, who fought Covid and had victory. She is stronger after Covid. I am so grateful to have her as a leader. I am proud to work with Berly who represents the 5 C’s of our organization. She truly is a DAISY Nurse Leader.
