Bernadette’s positive attitude shines through when working with patients and fellow staff members.
Bernadette is a RN on 5 Stainton. She lives by Shore’s Mission Statement. She cares for and respects all patients, their families, and each other. She is kind, compassionate, thoughtful, and a role model among her peers. She always puts other's needs in front of her own. At the beginning of the pandemic, nurses started to wear scrub hats when interacting with COVID-19 patients. These hats have become a staple part of the nursing uniform. Bernadette noticed this and began making scrub hats with her own two hands. She gave them out to the nurses on the Unit to help spread cheer during this difficult time.
Then one of our senior nurses went out on medical leave with a debilitating disease. Bernadette decided to do something nice for the nurse and her family. A fellow coworker donated some material and Bernadette donated many hours of her time to make scrub hats. This time she sold the scrub hats on our floor and through the hospital. As if this wasn’t enough, Bernadette planned a small gathering and donated the proceeds to the husband and wife to help pay for medical bills. The actions of Bernadette Gavilan continue to have a positive impact on the 5 Stainton family. She has assisted a fellow nurse with financial assistance during a major pandemic. Her positive energy and helpfulness have been noticed on 5 Stainton and throughout Shore Medical Center. Bernadette’s positive attitude shines through when working with patients and fellow staff members. Thank you, Bernie, for all you do!
