During the few hours Bethany had before her shift the following day, she kept in constant communication with me and cared for my pet as if it were her own.
Bethany Magnani is the embodiment of these combined attributes: knowledgeable, professional, compassionate, empathetic, and kind. After being whisked off to a place following an emergency landing at BWI, my mom and I were met by medical personnel and transported via ambulance to BWMC. We were met at the ED door by a full team of healthcare professionals. My mom was rushed into imaging for a CAT scan and was promptly diagnosed as being in the throes of a stroke. Bethany oversaw the infusion of a thrombolytic, along with the pharmacy and physician team. The procedure took a surprisingly long time to dissolve the clots. Bethany was there every step of the way and gave my mother the courage to fight the pain and fear and hold on. She did not let my mom out of her sight for the duration of the treatment.
Of note, we had been traveling with my dog from a vacation in Maine to our respective homes in Florida when my mom's symptoms first occurred. Therefore, I had a dog in the ED with us. My dog waited patiently until the treatment ended, and when it was time for my mom to be transported to the ICU, the dilemma became what to do with the dog. Without hesitation, Bethany offered to take my dog home with her overnight so I could be with my mother. Bethany's husband drove to the hospital in the middle of the night to pick up my dog and take her home with him. During the few hours Bethany had before her shift the following day, she kept in constant communication with me and cared for my pet as if it were her own.
Words cannot sufficiently express our gratitude for Bethany's above-and-beyond actions. In my book, she is a true heroine, and I will never forget what she did for us. BWMC is blessed to have her as an employee. My mother was blown away by the quality of care she received from Bethany and from all team members throughout the duration of her stay. These individuals saved her life, and she was able to walk out of the hospital. We cannot say enough good things about our experience and again, a special thank you to Bethany and her act of selflessness.
