My father was admitted to Blanchard Valley Hospital after having a nocturnal seizure and my mom finding him on the floor at their home. Upon him moving to the 6th floor to his ICU room, we were greeted by nurse Betty Johnson. From the moment we met her, she was amazing. We told her that my dad loves to jab back and forth with the nurses verbally, and she was on board and absolutely joined in with my dad, making him laugh at times when he didn't have much to laugh about. She was so caring and kept us abreast of everything that was going on with my dad. When my dad started to decline, she never stopped caring for him as a human being, she was always open and honest with us about his condition and his progress and she included us in every aspect of his care. When we were informed that he had aspiration pneumonitis and pleural effusion and that Hospice was probably his best option, it was a shock, to say the least. After the doctor left the room, she came back in to console and comfort us and ask if she could explain anything to us again that we may not have understood when the doctor was talking to us. We placed my dad in Hospice at 1:00 pm, and he passed away at 10:00 pm that same night. Betty made this experience better for all of us as a family, including my dad. She is an absolutely amazing nurse, but more importantly, an amazing human being.
