Blan was a constant source of comfort and reassurance that we were not alone and we were in good hands.
My husband experienced a number of ischemic episodes on Thanksgiving, causing the right side of his body to be affected and leading to loss of ability to use his right arm. No one expects to deal with a stroke at the age of 36. From the moment we arrived at the ER it was clear to us that he was a very unusual case for many reasons. Imaging showed irregularities in his brain besides the numerous small areas of stroke damage. Due to him being adopted we are unaware of his family history. We were admitted for testing but noticed on the first night his right arm weakness had gotten a lot worse and the decision was made to transfer him to the ICU for closer monitoring. That’s when Blan entered our story and changed the trajectory of our entire experience.

Due to personal life events in our past, my husband and I share a struggle to trust and relax in the care of medical establishments. From the very first moment, Blan put us both at ease with his friendly, compassionate bedside manner and attentiveness to both our needs and concerns. His candid openness & communication at every juncture made us feel comfortable and informed. He provided exceptional care for my husband as a stroke patient while also honoring his capabilities & need for autonomy.

As we navigated the very stressful landscape of uncertainty & met with countless doctors & nurses all working to figure out my husband’s health, Blan was a constant source of comfort and reassurance that we were not alone and we were in good hands. Every question & concern was met with honor and validation, every need was met with urgency & attention to detail. We felt that we had an advocate & someone we could trust with my husband’s health & safety. Above and beyond all of this, Blan’s positive attitude, great sense of humor, and insistence on optimism and positivity gave us a lifeline of hope, comfort, and encouragement.

To feel safe enough to let go and trust in circumstances like these is an immeasurable gift, and we cannot express enough gratitude for Blan. We feel truly blessed to have been assigned his care. Blan is the type of individual who inspires in a humble way. Thank you, Blan, for turning what started as a terrible life experience into an unforgettable encounter for all the best reasons.
