I had a chest tube placed which caused an un-manageable amount of pain. I tried to express my pain and discomfort to others with little result. I was told chest tubes are painful and even though I tried to share my experiences and threshold of pain, I could not seem to get anyone to understand. When Bonnie came into my room to get me for Dr. M, she asked me a couple of questions and determined something was not right with the chest tube and the amount of pain I was in. Bonnie reacted quickly to get me into the intensive care unit where Dr. M removed the chest tube and placed one in a new location. All along Bonnie asked me how I was doing and adjusted my pain meds according to how I looked and reacted. Once the first chest tube was removed, I instantly felt as though a knife had been removed from my back. Bonnie acted as my personal champion, coming to my aid when I desperately needed someone and showed compassion that meant so much to me. If Bonnie had not come, I don't know how I could have made it through the night in the amount of pain I was in. I want to thank her for taking the time out of her very busy schedule to show me the compassion I needed.
