Braden ran the child to Trauma 4 and activated our trauma team. He then aided in the resuscitation and was an invaluable part of the team.
We had very hard case recently at Baptist South ED. We had a walk-in gun shot wound to the head on a 4 year old boy. Braden helped save this child's life. The mother ran in screaming and handed the child to a PCT, who then handed the child to Braden. He was given a limp, bloody, unresponsive child (while trying to start an IV on another patient in the ED, mind you). Braden ran the child to Trauma 4 and activated our trauma team. He then aided in the resuscitation and was an invaluable part of the team. When situations like these arise, you don't have to think but rather just act on instinct. Braden could have frozen up and failed to act quickly and calmly. Rather, he did what he is trained to do, without hesitation. He is an asset to our team at Baptist South, and we need more nurses like him.
