Brando Cocoba started with Banner Thunderbird in 2007. Brando is consistently seen helping other nurses and patients and often volunteering for projects and additional things to do around the unit but everything is always patient centered.
All of our stories about Brando involve a “can do attitude”, resourcefulness, sharing knowledge, being proactive and has an infectious sense of humor. One of the humorous stories that I recall is hearing about this confused (pleasantly confused) patient who was yelling (day and night) and all she wanted was chocolate. She didn’t want food, water or pain meds, just chocolate! This wasn’t Brando’s patient but hearing that this patient just wanted chocolate, this nurse went down to the cafeteria and bought her some chocolate. When he gave it to her she said "now you’re cooking with gas” and gave everyone a big smile!!!
If Brando isn’t volunteering to help with projects or other nurses with the multiple daily tasks, he is coming up with ways to improve our unit, helping with roll out of projects or helping another department. The progressive care staff is always encouraged to work with Brando because he is such a strong team player. Brando is not only knowledgeable and always willing to help, but he does so with a smile and a great sense of humor.
