My father-in-law was admitted to the CVICU at Akron General after having a mild heart attack. The heart attack was a result of his hemoglobin dropping into the six-point range. After several pints of blood transfusions, his hemoglobin stabilized. Although the source of internal bleeding wasn't discovered, he was released from the hospital. Then, he had a relapse with another mild heart attack. He was again admitted to the CVICU at Akron General. He had a colonoscopy, but his colon wasn't completely cleaned out. Therefore, he had to go another day without eating and drink the solution again, which caused him to go to the bathroom all night. It was that evening when one of the doctors ordered that he be removed from the CVICU to a regular floor. This caused great consternation and anxiety because he thought they were in the process of shipping him out again without finding the cause of the internal bleeding. Brandon Dutton was the nurse attending to my father-in-law on the night shift. He was comforting and reassuring. He advocated on his behalf to get them to keep him at the CVICU, at least until his colonoscopy was done the next day. Brandon was very kind, patient, professional, and caring for my father-in-law that night. He treated my father-in-law how he would've wanted to be treated if he was the patient. Because of this nominee, that night was a turning point in the care of my father-in-law. He was anxious and upset, not knowing if he was going to get out of the hospital alive. Then they were going to move him to another room with him, thinking they just wanted to ship him out and back home, possibly to die. However, Brandon interceded on his behalf, showing compassion and making a difference in his care. I am happy to say that because of this nominee, my father-in-law is now home on the mend and back to doing things around the house that he enjoys, like mowing the grass.
