Breelyn advocated for this patient and assisted in all ways possible to alleviate her pain.
I was the attending taking care of a patient with severe pancreatitis. The patient had lost IV access and has been in significant pain as she was unable to receive fluids or IV pain medications. Although she was not the nurse assigned to this patient, Breelyn advocated for this patient and assisted in all ways possible to alleviate her pain. After exhausting all other options, I decided to place central access at 6:45, right before shift change. She went above and beyond to assist me with the line insertion and hold the hand of the patient, who was very uncomfortable. A nursing student was present as well, and Breelyn discussed the importance of the procedure with her and instructed her on how she could help. She could have left for the day since it was the end of her shift, and this was not her patient, but Breelyn put the patient first and stayed to help. She deserves recognition for her dedication to patient care.
