Brenda is an amazing person and nurse. She comes to work every day with a smile, gentle and compassionate attitude and is ready to help anyone in need. Her knowledge and expertise in every area of the unit is a valuable resource to others around her. Besides being a resource, she exudes the qualities of an outstanding nurse and person that is apparent and contagious to everyone around her. She comes to team meetings with insights she has gathered from truly spending time with her patients and always has something to add to the meeting that others were not aware of.
When patients can't communicate, Brenda goes out of her way to provide methods to help them be able to participate in the milieu and with the team. Even though she is busy and has many other tasks to complete she frequently sits with patients at meal time and in times of heightened anxiety (such as pre-procedure). She never displays the impression she is busy or has other things to do, instead she makes every patient feel like they are her only patient and makes them feel very special. She brings birthday cakes every month for the staff (on her own time and expense) and decorates the break room for the staff birthdays of the month.
Brenda is always willing to help with any situation and does it with gentleness, compassion and a smile on her face that brightens up the room. The calming presence, compassion, and dedication to her patients are clear with every interaction she has with them and their families. She always takes the time to orient the patient to the unit and our policies, while tailoring her care to their particular needs. She also always includes the family in her care and education. There are not enough words to express the units' appreciation, respect, and honor to work with such an outstanding nurse who exemplifies all of the principles and values we strive for each and every day.
