Brenda is a special nurse because, in addition to providing quality patient care, she has a passion for teaching. I have seen on many occasions where parents of newly admitted patients are very emotional about what their child is going through either because of the disease process or the patient's diagnosis.
Brenda will educate these parents by explaining in layman's terms what their child is going through. I have seen many crying parents due to uncertainty about what the outcome of what their child is going through might be, become very calm after Brenda explained and taught them about what their child is going through.
Brenda is willing and able to teach their parents in a language that they do understand and feel comfortable with. This is Brenda's way of providing extraordinary care and being an Extraordinary Nurse who is able to appeal to the emotional needs of these parents through teaching.
A parent once came to me being Brenda's immediate Supervisor and said, " She made me understand more about what my child is going through and I thank her for this".
