Brenda Kelly, RN, is deserving of the DAISY Award, as she is an outstanding role model to patients and families, as well as her colleagues. Brenda started with the company in 12/1994 and has continued to grow and evolve as a nurse professional. Brenda educates hospice patients and families on disease progression, end of life, and alleviating pain and suffering. She focuses on educating patients and families on strategies to improve quality of life at the end of life. Brenda delivers competent and compassionate care with all of her hospice visits. She uses active listening skills and makes recommendations to achieve positive patient outcomes. She is empathetic and a strong patient advocate. Most recently, Brenda admitted a challenging hospice patient that had lung cancer and multiple comorbidities. After the admission was completed, the family was so impressed with Brenda’s expert knowledge and compassionate disposition they requested to have Brenda as their primary case manager. Although Brenda had started her vacation time, she took the time to contact the patient’s family and advocate for her fellow hospice nurses. Upon returning from her vacation, she continued to make visits and also followed up with the family with bereavement after the patient expired. I wholeheartedly recommend Brenda for a DAISY Award!
