We are beyond grateful to have had the kind-hearted and tough-cookie Brenda in our corner.
My brother was recently admitted for treatment of a seizure. My brother was very anxious, confused, and agitated throughout the stay. However, his emotions began to escalate shortly after Brenda arrived for her shift. I gave Brenda a heads-up that my brother was getting increasingly agitated. She reassured me that she was prepared for whatever was to happen next and that my brother would continue to be in good hands.
Over the course of the next few hours, we learned that the physician team intended to discharge my brother before a psych eval could be done. In one swoop, Brenda went to bat for our family, knowing how important this psych eval was to us. Shortly after Brenda's discussion with the physician, the behavioral health person arrived. It was in this eval we learned that my brother's seizure was caused by a suicide attempt. Brenda's naturally calm demeanor and tenacity ensured my brother's safety as his care plan transitioned rapidly.
Brenda opened her warm heart to myself and my family, and we managed through the many emotions of this devastating news. She not only cared for my brother with tremendous skill, but her genuine compassion made sure she cared for us as a family. I believe Brenda saved my brother's life that day. If he had been discharged, he would not have had the wonderful support of the inpatient psych unit with a transition to the outpatient partial hospitalization program. We are beyond grateful to have had the kind-hearted and tough-cookie Brenda in our corner. Truly, thank you!
