As I was awakening from heart surgery, Brent was the first person I remember seeing. He was encouraging and positive as he removed the breathing tube. I understood what he was saying initially, but not capable of following his directions. He stayed calm and kept me calm. Brent wanted to make sure I was waking properly. Of course, I was in a fog, but Brent kept reassuring me that I was doing fine.
Brent made my family feel confident and not afraid, even though I was hooked up to a lot of scary equipment after surgery. Later that night, Brent and my family arranged for a family group phone call. The phone call was very meaningful to me and my family. Brent told my family that I would be sitting up in a chair the next morning, and I did.
Repeatedly, Brent said, I "was doing well." His words were so encouraging considering that my dad did not survive heart surgery and died at age 57.
In summary, Brent was the right nurse for me at the right time. He was truly outstanding in every way. He demonstrated great skills and compassion. He is a true DAISY Nurse.
