Eight years ago my husband suffered a heart attack. I took him to the emergency room in Spearfish, the closest hospital. he was transferred to Rapid City where he had 5 stents placed in his heart. When he was discharged we went to the VA hospital, Ft. Meade, to get his prescriptions. The pharmacist was very nice and gave us instructions on all the medications. One pill was extremely important, and I thought without it my husband would die! A few months passed, and the pills were running low. I called the heart doctor in Rapid City to have the pills refilled. They said I had to call the VA. I called the pharmacy and was that I had to talk to the Doctor! Now I am getting nervous, so I called the primary care doctor at the VA. I got a recorded message from his nurse, Bridget Allen, and left a message. Within 20 minutes she returned my call and said the prescriptions were being filled and would be on their way to us. I was so delightfully surprised at her quick response and how she had solved our dilemma. I thought she would never know how much we appreciated her, so I sent her a "thank you" card. I think it was a month later at my husband's doctor's appointment, and she came looking for us to give us a hug and a thank you for the card. I'm sure her nursing skills and her compassion have been enjoyed by many and to me, she will, and to me, she will always be an angel in a nurse's uniform. God bless Bridget Allen.
