I truly felt calmed and reassured by Brittany’s presence. She was confident and knowledgeable, but also gentle in her approach when explaining everything to me
Clinical Skills:
I instantly could tell that Brittany Clack had excellent critical thinking skills. When my blood pressure did not respond to traditional interventions, she was able to draw upon her clinical knowledge and expertise to collaborate with the Anesthesiologist to try something different. This collaboration occurred at my bedside, so I witnessed this interaction and was impressed with how articulate and knowledgeable Brittany was. The Anesthesiologist seemed impressed as well and agreed that Brittany had a good suggestion to try (and it worked!). In addition to this, Brittany seemed to have a never-ending toolbox of interventions to try, never giving up if they weren’t working. If I ever have more children (which I 100% will not be!), I would hope to have Brittany as my nurse. She demonstrates what it means to be a nurse, and I hope she recognizes her value in the profession!

Compassionate Care:
I truly felt calmed and reassured by Brittany’s presence. She was confident and knowledgeable, but also gentle in her approach when explaining everything to me and directing me into different positions to help improve my baby’s heart rate. She encouraged me and comforted me when I became emotional. She was very perceptive and able to “read the room”. I felt like she knew exactly what I needed, even though I didn’t know what that was at the time! I recently discovered Brittany won the “patient whisperer” award from her floor, this is not at all surprising to me, she has such a special gift and I feel so lucky I got her assigned as my nurse!

Exemplary Service:
Brittany Clack was my RN in L&D for the birth of my daughter. She works night shift, so by the time she came on shift, I had already been at the hospital all day being induced. I had just received an epidural for pain relief prior to Brittany’s shift. While this was very effective at taking away the pain of labor, my blood pressure and my baby’s heart rate did not tolerate it at all. From the time Brittany came on shift to the time my daughter was born three hours later, I don’t think she left my room for more than one minute. She was constantly at my side, reassuring me that she was keeping a close eye on me and baby, and that there was plenty of support immediately available should it be needed. Although this was not my first baby, Brittany did not treat me like “I should know everything”. She took time to explain exactly what was happening and why. She also kept her “cool” in what felt like a very stressful situation. I don’t tend to be a person that receives comfort/consoling well, but Brittany was able to assess my needs and magically understand exactly what I needed in that moment.

Continued Commitment:
Brittany exuded a commitment to excellence. She always kept me the focus, calling me and my husband by first name and our unborn baby too! While this may seem small, it is very common in that environment to refer to patients as “mom” and “baby”. Brittany made me feel like she was completely invested in my labor and safe delivery of my baby. Brittany was also very professional when we identified that part of my epidural complications may have been preventable. She managed her co-workers while also not making excuses. She acknowledged concerns while reassuring me that she had everything under control and that additional help was available if she needed it.
