She never failed to check on us frequently to ensure all our needs, both my mother's and our families, were met.
My Mother was in room 2210 for a week after having a significant heart attack that led to congestive heart failure. Brittany Barringer was my mother’s nurse for several days during her stay. She provided exceptional care for my mother every minute. At one point, a cardiologist came in with a high-level explanation of test results and the determination of what had happened to my mother. I was emotional upon hearing that the only real course of action was comfort measures for her. After the doctor left, seeing that I was upset and did not fully understand what I had heard, Brittany asked me to restate what I had heard, and then she helped me better understand my mother's condition and what it meant going forward. She listened, let me cry, and held my hand.
She found out that my mother liked ice cream and milkshakes, and then made her chocolate milkshakes with Ensure and ice cream. One day, she learned that momma liked Cheerwine. The next morning, she got momma a Cheerwine waiting for her when she woke up. After we moved to only comfort measures and started to engage in Hospice, Brittany printed a copy of my mother's wristband. She attached it to the bed so that she (and others) could scan it when giving meds without disturbing momma when she was sleeping or resting. She greeted my mother each morning with " Hello, Beautiful. " She never failed to check on us frequently to ensure all our needs, both my mother's and our families, were met. My mother was transferred from the hospital back home with Hospice support on Thursday, and we are glad that Momma was able to come home but miss Brittany and her wonderful bedside manner every day.
Our hospital experience was positive. The nurses and assistants on the post-op floor were great. However, Brittany stood out as a shining example of care and compassion. I am thankful to our Lord for sending us someone like her.
