Brittany has been taking care of patients on the E1 COVID Unit since day one and she continues to come to work with a positive attitude and a smile on her face every day. I have continually witnessed the great patient care that she has provided to her patients but was truly amazed at the care she provided yesterday. She was taking care of a DNR/DNI patient who was deteriorating throughout her shift and made sure to make her as comfortable as possible. After initially intervening, the patient seemed to be doing a little better for the next hour but then began to quickly decline. Brittany immediately entered the room, made sure the MD was notified, and tried to get a hold of the patient's daughter (who is an ICU RN at another facility and was working at the time) while asking another RN to grab the Entertainment iPad (to be used for FaceTime). When she could not get a hold of the patient's daughter, she called the facility where she worked and insisted that the operator find out where she was working and get her on the phone immediately. After multiple conversations, she was able to get the daughter on the phone and connect to FaceTime, which allowed the daughter to say her final goodbyes to the patient. The daughter was very grateful and expressed her gratitude for Brittany and all she did to make this happen. I could not be prouder to have her on the team!
