Brittany assumed care of a patient and family who knew their time on Earth together as a family was limited. The situation was very difficult for everyone involved because the patient had been doing better off of ECMO. When Brittany took over, she knew her night would be rough but she accepted her assignment and knew that she would be there for the family each step of the way. I am always impressedby the advocacy shown by Brittany but during end of life situations, more advocacy is needed than ever. Brittany was there to help all family members and was there to wipe tears when they could not. Brittany advocated for more pain medications when she felt the patient was uncomfortable and was there to share all updates with the family members. Although she had never cared for this patient, she assumed care like he and his family had always been a part of hers. I am honored at the compassion and empathy shown to this family, through her own tears she extended love that the family will never forget.
