My husband was under Brittany's care for 3 days. His entire stay lasted one week. We had plenty of time to compare nursing care and have now used Brittany as our measuring stick. "She/he's good, but she/he's no Brittany Byrne," became our comparison. In any profession, there are those who are good, great and excellent, but Brittany is "nurse extraordinaire". Her attributes follow in no certain order.
Brittany is naturally patient. She always appeared with a "what can I do for you" attitude and warm caring demeanor. She was never in a rush and always took time to listen to our questions and concerns. From lifting to moving him, to making his bed to changing from portable potty to regular toilet, to moving him to a new room lugging all the equipment herself, she happily, pleasantly, and patiently approached each task. She is knowledgeable in her field. We asked a million questions and Brittany was totally informed and relayed all she knows and could ease our worries and educate us about all my husband was going through. I was very concerned about his lack of food intake; I asked Brittany whether he would be eating more, what would happen if he didn't, why he wasn't, etc. Brittany explained what his body had gone through and made me understand where he was. She was so helpful with my husband's concerns about his condition after surgery. She just worked on this issue until the physician found a solution. She didn't dismiss his concerns.
Brittany is very aware of her patients' needs and concerns, minor as they may or may not be. I was in the position to watch her work since I was there a minimum of 8 hours for a few days. She was extremely conscientious when reading input, output, machine measurements and doing each task necessary for the well-being of my husband. Brittany concentrated when evaluating, even though we were often asking questions. She would always finish her task, then directly address our concerns. We knew she was serious, dedicated to her job and her patients. I felt very secure that when I left, and Brittany was there that my husband would get the best care. Brittany is a talented, very bright, concerned, efficient, conscientious, dedicated nurse who helps retain the University of Chicago's superior reputation.
