Brittany always recognizes the emotional needs as well as the physical needs of her patients and their families. She shows concern and compassion when caring for her patients and always looks for ways to make their stay better. She strives to build a relationship with her patients so that they are comfortable and trust they are receiving excellent care. Brittany recently had a patient admitted to our floor accompanied by his 11-year-old granddaughter. It quickly became apparent that there was no other adult present to be with her. This granddaughter had been trying to care for her grandfather while her grandmother was recuperating in an acute rehab facility. Being only 11-years-old, she was scared and hungry. As nurses, we care for not only our patients but for their families as well. Brittany spent time reassuring this young girl to help allay her fears and she went down to our cafeteria and bought a lunch that any 11-year-old would love. She got her comfortable in a chair with her lunch. In the meantime, she contacted our Social Worker to find contact information for this young girl's mother who lives in Michigan. Brittany ensured that "both" of her patients were well taken care of.
