Brittany Kubkowski is the definition of an extraordinary nurse. She took on a difficult patient with a rare skin condition. She decided to primary her after seeing how intricate her care is and how important consistency would be for this patient. While pregnant herself, Brittany spent nearly every shift on her feet fighting for this baby girl. Every day consisted of advocating for this patient and making sure that her pain was properly managed, that her wound care was consistent and that her developmental milestones were being met. This patient’s family was rarely around, so in her free time, Brittany would show this baby tons of love and ensure she was properly cuddled. Brittany never wavered when things got difficult, the patient’s condition worsened, and the social situation became complicated. Brittany continued to advocate every day so this baby could have the best possible chance at life when no family was there to do it. I was so inspired by the compassion and love Brittany poured into her patient care again and again, no matter what. She is an incredibly strong nurse and is an incredible example of what an extraordinary human is. While the family may not understand how Brittany went above and beyond for this little girl, everyone around her has noticed how much she deserves recognition and how thankful we are to have her on our team!
