It is with honor that I nominate Brittany Lewis for the DAISY Award. Brittany has consistently demonstrated excellence in nursing care, going above and beyond in providing compassionate and quality care to patients. Brittany has a deep commitment to patient-centered care. She is known for her ability to build strong relationships with patients and their families, offering not only clinical expertise but also emotional support during challenging times. We have a young patient who was implanted with her VAD at the age of 16. She has recently turned 18. She has a mother, but her mother has not been very helpful to the patient in regard to setting her up for success as an adult. Recently, Brittany has spent an enormous amount of time working with the patient. Brittany helped her set up her PCP appointments, gynecology, EP, and palliative care appointments. Brittany helped her set up her online banking to get her disability checks released to her and not her mom. Brittany bought her a pill pack and a planner and then set up her chart. Brittany taught her how to keep track of her appointments and helped her set up Medicaid transport. Brittany helped her set up reminders on her phone for her IV abx and appointments. Brittany has encouraged her to find a job and attend college. Brittany introduced this young patient to a former VAD patient (now transplanted) to help mentor her. Brittany is a true advocate for patients and an exemplary nurse!
