I was in shock and crying, and Britton paused and took the time to stay with me for a few moments and comfort me as best she could.
My mother was suddenly admitted to the hospital the night before her birthday. I was told to fly in as soon as possible, so I caught the next flight. I met Britton during the night shift. She informed me she had taken care of my mother the night before when she had first been admitted, and she went out of her way to comfort me and assured me she was doing the best she could and making my mother as comfortable as possible. She asked what I needed (snacks, if I had questions about what she was doing, if I wanted silence or conversation), and she told me my mother was her only patient, so I could ask her for anything I needed. I was in shock and crying, and Britton paused and took the time to stay with me for a few moments and comfort me as best she could. She was a friend when I needed one. I noticed the sign the next day to nominate a nurse, and I knew I had to. I am forever grateful for Britton and will never forget her.
