One day, the Emergency Department Team Coordinator received an outside call from a suicidal patient stating, "She wanted to end her life and could not take her 18-month-old daughter anymore."
I was notified that this patient was on the phone at which time I went to Bryant along with the Assistant Nurse Manager, who contacted the police maintaining this phone call until they were in the caller's home.
Through Bryant's experience, knowledge, caring, and compassion he was able to engage her while he continued to gather her information for the Police Department.
Once the Police arrived, they got her phone and spoke to Bryant informing him they were taking her to an appropriate treatment center and the 18-month-old was safe.
