Buffie has taken "Own It" and "Be the Change" to another level by taking on many initiatives that impact nurses' careers, personal lives as well as the strategic priorities of the hospital. Buffie and I attended the Magnet conference together a few years ago, and it's been great working with her recently as we have put much of what we learned into practice. She is always encouraging nurses to continue educating themselves by taking certifications and applying for Advance. As a result, at least two nurses have indeed advanced and many are more active in their clinical practice committees. She was the secretary for Senate and recently took on the role as Chair. If it weren't for Buffie taking this role, I really believe the entire nursing shared governance model would have collapsed during this time of leadership transition. Instead we are actively restructuring the model and engaging nurses so shared governance will have a clear vision and direction. I appreciate Buffie's commitment to always doing the right thing and speaking up on behalf of her colleagues. Buffie encourages others to write nominations for DAISY Awards however she is definitely deserving of the award herself.
