Caleb is truly a perfect example of compassion and empathy.
Caleb pays very close attention to his patients' needs and continuously assesses his patients and their needs. He is able to anticipate what a patient needs with little effort. Caleb transferred units this past summer. He never skipped a beat. His attitude is always positive and infectious. Working with Caleb is an honor.
Recently, Caleb came in on a day off to assist with transport in an ambulance for a patient going home to die. If Caleb hadn't volunteered to assist with the transport, the patient would likely not have been able to die at home. Although this was something he'd never done, he walked into the situation with ease. He cared for this patient in the days before this transport home, so it was very special that he was the nurse who saw this through and assisted with getting her home. Caleb is truly a perfect example of compassion and empathy.
Caleb creates a healing environment at all levels, whereby wholeness, beauty, comfort, dignity, and peace are potentiated as evidenced by his care of several end-of-life patients recently and his ability to bring up ethical issues, as well as his ride to Jonesport with a dying patient. He listens intently to patients and families and gives them what they need within reason and policy. He is open-minded and empathetic.
Caleb is the most deserving person I know to receive the DAISY Award. He is a perfect example of how a nurse should carry themselves and treat their patients and colleagues.
