Caleb did all of this while teaching families and patients on their level and taking all the time needed to show his compassion.
Caleb was scheduled for three days in Pediatrics. However, due to staffing shortages he was floated to NICU on the first day. While checking on Caleb that day he was upbeat in NICU and stated that he was having a great day. Already I was impressed with him, that he could take a situation that he wasn't expecting when he walked into work and turned it into, " a great day". The next day rolled around, and again, Caleb needed to be floated to the NICU due to staffing shortages and experience mix. I caught Caleb in the hallway and thanked him for helping out, and his response was, "That is why we are here; I am happy to help!" Again, I thanked him. He ate his lunch, and back to NICU he went.

On the third day in a row it happened again that Caleb needed to float to NICU. Same exact experience, no ill feelings, just eagerness to help out fellow nursing colleagues. Not to mention that halfway through that shift, Caleb was pulled back to Peds to admit patients. Caleb was super busy, and when I checked on him, he was telling me how exciting being so busy was and that he was having a great time. Caleb did all of this while teaching families and patients on their level and taking all the time needed to show his compassion. I am a hard person to truly impress, however Caleb over the period of those three days, epitomized not only what it is to be a team player, but what it is to be a St. Vincent Healthcare nurse. As his manager, I couldn't be more proud of him and, in all honesty, a little jealous of his unending energy to help out and amazing attitude. Thank you, Caleb!

Caleb's actions were critical to keeping staffing at safe levels both in NICU and Peds/PICU. He floated willingly 3 days in a row to help, not looking for any accolades but just to do the right thing. Caleb, during this time, as he always is, was wonderful to his patients and families. He loves to teach and get down on the patients' level when talking to them. Caleb truly has those characteristics that they teach you in nursing school encompassing a good nurse. I'm proud to have him on my team, and I am proud of how he helped out our departments during this crucial time!
