Calleen Jordan is a hero every day. For example, today: The 1st orthopedic patient arrived and the surgeon discovered that he did not meet the physical therapy expectations for pre and post op. The surgeon discussed with Calleen how he was going to revise the pending surgery for this 1st patient of the day. Calleen was right there to facilitate all the arrangements such as changing the consent, changing the OR room setup, changing the staffing and dealing with the emotions of the patient and his family. All went smooth and easy, as usual.
Calleen wears many hats: OR lead charge nurse, in charge of doctor preference cards, Epic key user, OROC committee member discussing ongoing solutions to problems in the OR. She balances the needs and expectations of the surgical patients and their families, as well as between fellow nurses and surgeons, house supervisors and her manager. She always has a solution and makes her role look effortless and with professional integrity.
Calleen makes a point to be directly involved with the first surgical admissions of the day. She connects with the patient and their family in her compassionate manner and comprehensively explains to them what their experience will be like during their perioperative stay. She always ends by asking the patient and their family if there is anything else she can do to make them more comfortable and also if there are any more questions or concerns that she can address.
When Calleen leaves the patient's bay she doesn't realize how much stress she has reduced for the patient and their family. They feel safe and valued and in a positive frame of mind. She deserves meaningful recognition for being an extraordinary role model by carrying all the stress of coordinating staffing for all the surgeries of the day along with the creative communication and hugs for the staff and surgeons! We have a large group of surgeons that depend on her to arrange or rearrange cases to meet their needs and their patient's needs.
Team members comment on how they appreciate her outstanding leadership role, incredible work, her knowledge and clinical skills, never is frazzled, always in control.
Calleen is a perfect DAISY Award recipient. In the manner of her normal day, she always goes above and beyond.
