Candace is a great example of the “doing more” idea for Patient Satisfaction. She has exhibited the natural quality we look for in all prospective employees. This kind of attitude of “doing more” sets the example for others. They see the enthusiasm that relates to patient satisfaction. Candace consistently goes beyond the expected to the exceptional. She does her best and then tries to do even better. She has only been here a short time, starting as a GN in January, but has shown that ability to become a great nurse- one that cares for her patients. I feel she shows the qualifications to be a DAISY Award Winner.
“In the last 10 years, I’ve been in and out of hospitals due to my health. I had to come to Good Shepherd at the beginning of April due to a heart scare. I told myself, I would never return to the local hospitals. However, I did. I had the pleasure of having a young lady named Candace, a nurse, take care of me in 2339. She was the first person in years that made me smile, laugh, & “want” to take better care of my heart condition. Even when she encouraged me to walk, I couldn’t help but find myself at her counter wanting to be around her. She can bring out the sunlight in anyone, even me- a cranky old geezer.
I have been wanting to write because its people like her that make the world smile. When she discharged me, my last comment was, “I said I’d never come back to this hospital but after the care you’ve given me, I’ll be back. I actually hadn’t had anyone make me smile in a long time.” Thanks Candace and if I have to return to the 3rd floor, I hope I’m lucky enough to have you as my nurse.”
