There was a family that came into the ER that was traveling through KY. They were involved in a car accident where the dad went to a room and the mom had broken bones therefore neither could care for the kids. There were three kids at the age of 3 years old,4 years old, and 3 months old. The grandmother was called and started on her way however she was 8 hours away. Shannon Bell and Deidre Canada took turns taking care of the children until the grandmother got there. NICU was called and supplied clothes, wipes, and diapers. The charge nurse in the ER at the time went home and got additional clothes for the kids and toys for them. Shannon and Deidre stayed all night taking care of the kids and watching over them, getting the older ones to sleep, and feeding the younger one. The grandmother finally got there, and they wouldn't take her card so Shannon paid for their hotel for one day/night so they could go get some rest.
