She then painted us the whole picture of what had and was going to go on with my husband’s care based on what we understood at that time. My husband and I both slept that night feeling a great deal less panic-stricken and out of control.
My husband had been here at Froedtert over 24 hours after the worst, most horrifying day of our 42 year marriage when we met Carla. He had magnificent nurses and aides during this time. Caring, friendly, patient (when my husband gets scared, he likes to talk - everyone caringly listened), kind, and respectful. But when Carla heard he was worrying, she asked how she could help. When she understood we had questions, she settled all of her patients in for the night and came back by my husband. She not only listened to every question and all of the questions that popped up as a result of her answering the original question, but she showed us my husband’s scans and tests so we could actual re-walk through what had happened the day before with her explaining what all the medical professionals saw and then she would clearly, concisely and illustratively (not figuratively or hypothetically) explain why it was important. Carla explained how each of the different disciplines might use the information and how they may look at it differently. She then painted us the whole picture of what had and was going to go on with my husband’s care based on what we understood at that time. My husband and I both slept that night feeling a great deal less panic-stricken and out of control. The next morning, my husband had another VTACH event ( only about 8 beats) that was monumental for us because it helped us identify what he feels when it happens. It was because of Carla’s explanations that we could approach the VTACH event clearly and without fear or panic setting in. When we saw Carla right after this and again tried to explain what her time and caring, thoughtful explanations had meant to and done for us, we both cried because there just are not words to express proper gratitude for that kind of gift. Thank you just seemed so inadequate. But thank you is what the English language offers, so THANK YOU, Carla. You changed our lives for the better - forever.
