On several occasions during staff rounding, staff have wanted to recognize Carlo Diaz for his exemplary patient care.

Several weeks ago he had a "senior" arrive during his shift who was wearing a WWII veteran cap. While getting other history and information and assessing the patient, Carlo asked him where he served. The patient noted he served on a specific ship during "the big one". When time allowed Carlo went to the Internet and printed off information about this ship and shared it with the patient and his family. What an awesome connection! I am told he does this often. I can only imagine what this means to the patient knowing that Carlo cares so much.

Last week I was doing patient rounding and several patients noted that they had Carlo as their nurse and he made them laugh when they were feeling quite terrible, one while starting an IV.

A patient's family member writes . . . I just wanted to state that Carlo was the BEST nurse I have ever had for my Dad or myself. He took care of him as if he was his Dad and that makes me feel so great I will be telling all my family and friends about his experiences here today. A huge thumbs up to the crew, really Carlo. He is a great professional nurse that made us feel welcome.

The quality of a nurse like Carlo will make this hospital go a long way. Thank you Carlo for taking care of my Dad like I would. You're the best!

I believe Carlo exemplifies what the DAISY award stands for. Nurses caring for their patients with integrity and compassion specific to the needs of the individual patient.
