When it comes to finding a vein to start a line on, simply drawing labs is a very difficult task in relation to my body. Whenever a nurse or tech appears with a kit I wish them the best of luck and many have given up without even looking. Not Carolanne! She did a manual search and then went to get a piece of equipment that shined a light to show the veins up. She took the time to search up and down both my arms and hands. She encountered the issues that everyone else does, the veins roll over completely or are very small. She made two attempts but was unsuccessful. Usually when this happened I end up with medical professionals who become obsessed, their egos get in the way and I become an irritated pin cushion. Carolanne took my immediate needs into consideration and sought the assistance of her charge nurse manager and they searched together. Eventually the charge nurse was able to start a new line on me.
This may seem simple to some people but as a difficult, almost impossible stick, it means the world. First and foremost, my medication was due. Secondly, the ego tripping nurses of the past have left me with weeklong bruises, ridiculous amounts of pain and unwanted attitude. Not to mention some have blown veins that could have been used by others with more skills in these matters. Not once did Carolanne show any signs of disgust or frustration. She remained friendly and professional until she left for the night.
