Carolyn was working with a provider who was late, and one of her patients came in really early for her appt. Another backstaff went out before they left for the day and told the patient we were going to get her back a soon as possible, but it might be a minute. At that time the patient was feeling great and not having any problems. About 20 minutes later, Carolyn thought that she could check on the patient and see if she needed anything, she called her name in the waiting room and the patient didn't answer. So she then called the patient on her phone. The patient picked up and was talking to Carolyn that she was walking up the stairs to the waiting room. Carolyn could tell that something was off with the way that the patient was talking. Carolyn then asked her if things were ok, and the patient stated that her tongue was swelling up. Carolyn then told her to stay where she was, and she ran over and got an RN to go with her to get the patient and get her into our OBS STAT. She then brought the patient back and started taking care of the patient to make sure she was able to breathe, pox, etc..... She then ran and got the provider who was going to see the patient, who got her over to the patient STAT as well. The patient was having a reaction to something that she didn't know and could have been life-threatening. Carolyn took it upon herself to check on the patient, and it was a great thing she did. She then jumped right in and took care of the patient, and made sure that she was getting the right care she needed in an emergency situation. She is always going above and beyond for the members we have and never asked for anything in return. She always will do things like this, and then when she is called out at huddle for doing a great job, she just says that we all would have done the same as it is our job. She will always be someone that I look up to and someone that I know I can learn so much about to be the best nurse I can be. Please consider her for this award, as she is the best Nurse we have at Westminster Clinic to date.
