When resources are needed to staff a shift, Casey engages her team to work, even working the shift herself, to ensure our patients have the resources to receive care.
Casey continues to set the standard for leadership. She is always available even after hours for a phone call. I remember when she had asked me to be a charge nurse for the team (even though I hadn’t worked in the ER long) I thought she was crazy. However, she quickly put my fears aside by saying “You do not need to know everything an ER can bring to the table, that comes with experience which you will get along the way, I need someone who is a strong leader and someone whom the staff looks up to”. After that conversation, I accepted her request to be a charge nurse and loved it! It was her ability to see me as a leader and her leadership that made me choose to do the job.
Casey Cooke joined Shelby Hospital from Marion Hospital initially as a Clinical Nurse Manager. She immediately immersed herself in the leadership team at Shelby Hospital by taking an active role in the hospital's KPI /Gemba process. As a result, Casey quickly learned about the departments at Shelby Hospital along with the initiatives the various departments were working on. In late 2022 Casey was promoted to ANM, expanding her role to lead Ontario and Ashland FSED in addition to Shelby ED. Casey leads by example. She inspects what she expects. Casey does not shy away from challenges. When resources are needed to staff a shift, Casey engages her team to work, even working the shift herself, to ensure our patients have the resources to receive care. Casey has a contagious laugh and a sense of humor. This helps keep situations in perspective and allows others to engage in problem-solving. Casey is quick to recognize her team and those around her for their contributions to a project.
