Cassidy Keskeny called me in NYC after my elderly father was admitted. I was away on vacation there and as his medical representative, wanted to help coordinate his care until I could return to Michigan the next day. Cassidy spent time on the phone with me, updating his meds, treatment needs, and planning, medical directives, etc. She took great care of him and talked to me twice on the phone until I returned. So grateful!
When I returned on Saturday, spent the night and next two days staying with him, Cassidy attended to our every need. She was kind, helpful, thorough and very sweet to my dad, who at 89, couldn't even hear her voice most of the time. She was very patient with his hearing problems and made sure he understood everything that was happening with his treatment and upcoming scheduled tests while there. Her sweet and gentle manner was so soothing to my dad when he was confused or disoriented.
In the middle of the night, Dad's BP rose very high and Cassidy responded with caring concern and got orders from the doctor to intervene and he felt much better by 6 AM that morning. She joked with him and was encouraging and supportive throughout his stay there. She was very solicitous to me as well, checking to see if I needed anything many times throughout the night I stayed there. What a great representative of Beaumont and great nursing care, in general!
I happened to notice that this is the week to celebrate nurses. What a perfect week to celebrate Cassidy! As a psychologist, I am particularly tuned into the importance of integrative medical care. I really believe Cassidy took a holistic view of the patient (my dad) and responded to his psychological needs just as effectively as she did to his physical needs. To me, that is what really wonderful care is all about. Cassidy says she is a "newer" nurse, but she already has the most important things down cold.
We were so very lucky to have Cassidy care for my dad and we are all very, very grateful. I also want to acknowledge that every staff person, from an aide to transport to the custodian, was positive, friendly and very kind in their treatment of us all. This is the best hospital stay we've ever had for Dad and at 89, there have been many! Thank you for giving me a forum to express our thanks.
