I had an unexpected traumatic C-section in which I lost over three liters of blood. From the OR, they took me to the hospital's Surgical ICU to stay overnight. Catherine was my nighttime nurse. I explained to Cat what happened during my C-section and how I had not been able to meet my new baby girl. I was very emotional about this, being that my family was all able to hold her and be with her while I could not. Cat came into my room that night with a travel monitor and said, “We are going on a trip.” I immediately said, “To see my baby?” She told me yes, and she and the charge nurse, D, hooked me up to a travel monitor and took me to the mother-baby unit to meet my daughter! I remember seeing Cat tear up when I held her. I was even able to finally give my daughter a name. Being a nurse myself, I know Cat does her job because she loves helping people and not for a paycheck. I know she did not have to bring me to see my sweet girl that night, but instead, she wanted to. Her compassionate care shows she goes above and beyond for her patients. She was a shining light during a dark time for me.
